Our story and vision

History

In 1976 a Bible study began in the Port Washington area with the desire to start a Bible-teaching church. Open Door Bible Church's first service was held on January 2, 1977. Pastor Sid Litke came in 1984.

The church originally met in rented facilities in Port Washington. In 1985 a former liquor store at the present location was purchased and renovated – holding our first service at this location on Easter Sunday 1986. In 1987 God directed us to plant Grace Bible Church in Adell as an outgrowth of our ministry. We occupied the present worship center in March 1994. Later developments included various renovations and in 2019 we dedicated the new Discipleship Center.

Pastor Jim Engelman joined the staff In 1999 as an associate pastor of adult ministries. Pastor Seth Meeks became our first youth pastor in 2005. Pastor Nate Meeks followed him as pastor of youth and family ministry in 2016. Pastor Seth Meeks returned to Open Door in 2018 to fill the position of adult discipleship pastor after serving a couple of years in Christian camping leadership at Fort Wilderness.
